The frontage of the Queen's
Head is a fine example of inter-war pub architecture. Replacing an
older
beer house
that was demolished in
1936, this building was
erected during the following year. Clean lines and understatement were the order of
the day for a symmetrical design. The neighbouring Victorian properties
in this photograph were
demolished and replaced by modern housing but the Queen's Head
survived to serve as the resident's local. Henry Hunt, known locally
as Harry, was the licensee in the late 19th century. He kept the
Queen's Head with his
Netherton-born wife Mary. Harry's
niece Jane Johnson worked as a barmaid in the pub.
