Bricklayers'-Arms

George Haydon was the licensee of the Bricklayer's Arms in the 1850's. He had previously kept the Old Bricklayer's Arms in nearby Birchall Street. He also operated a malthouse and kiln in Birchall Street. The building was on the south-east side of the street next to the post office on the corner of Cheapside. In 1854 George Haydon was listed in the Post Office Directory for Birmingham as a brewer, maltster and hop merchant. No doubt, George Haydon supplied a number of pubs in the locality, if not for beer then certainly for the ingredients used by other small scale brewers.
