Malt-Shovel-Inn

Moving from the Waggon and Horses in Bordesley's Adderley Street, George North was the licensee of the Malt Shovel Inn at the turn of the 1870's. The Brummie-born licensed victualler kept the pub with his wife Jane. She hailed from the Worcestershire village of Harvington. On retirement from the licensed trade, the couple moved to a smart residence in nearby Oakfield Road. The North's had enjoyed a successful career and could afford to employ a domestic servant and gardener.
