Based at The Lion Brewery in Aston, this company was founded by the maltster
William Rushton. Registered in 1898, the brewery had a tied estate of around 100
Ansell's acquired them in 1923.

"Mr William Thomas Rushton, J.P.. of Woodside, Barnt Green, Worcestershire,
brewer, founder and for many years head of Rushton's Brewery, Ltd., Aston,
Birmingham, [now absorbed in Ansell's Brewery. Ltd.], left estate of the gross
of ££429,590.17s.7d, with net personally £333,102.1s.9d.. The testator gave sums
ranging from £100 to £250 to several charities, chiefly in Birmingham. By his
will he had made a number of bequests to employees at Rushton's Brewery, Ltd.,
but these were revoked by the codicil owing the business being sold to Ansell's
Brewery, Ltd., and other provision having been made for these employees. Mr John
David Williams, J.P., of Clydach Court, Trelaw, Glamorgan, formerly Master of
the Ystrad and Pentyach Hunt, chairman of the Rhondda Valley and Ely Breweries,
Ltd., and of the Cardiff Malting Company, left estate of the gross value of
£152.997.17s 6d, the net personally being £143,013.18s.”
