History of Mitchell's & Butler's
On a visit to the Black Country Living Museum in 2010, I noticed they had a large information board for the breweries of the region on which it implied that the Butler's in Mitchell's and Butler's was that of William Butler in Wolverhampton. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. So, if you don't know who the real William Butler was then this is a good place to start. Here you will read about how a man from Worcester joined forces with a man from Hinckley and created one of the largest breweries in the country, a company that employed thousands of Brummies and Black Country men and women.

The Deerstalker
The Deerstalker Magazine, an in-house publication, was launched in 1948 with the official remit being: "for the interest, entertainment and information of all employees of Mitchell's and Butler's Limited, and their associated companies." Contributions and articles were invited from all sections within the company. Consequently, the magazine's legacy is a wealth of information on every aspect of the business and the people who worked for the brewery. Being rather difficult to track down, I do not have every issue but I certainly have a great chunk of them. Rather than selecting items from each issue, I have opted to reproduce almost every page and photograph in order that descendants of those who worked at Mitchell's and Butler's have the opportunity of seeing exactly who did what and when.
