Harviestoun Brewery
Established in a former dairy in Dollar, Clackmannanshire, the Harviestoun Brewery was founded in 1984 by two home-brew enthusiasts Ken Brooker and Eric Harris. They built their own brewing kit inside a 200 year-old stone-byre. They were later joined by Stewart Cail, a former brewer at Vaux. When increased sales permitted expansion, they acquired a 10 barrel plant from the Devanha Brewery of Aberdeenshire. Sales rocketed in the late 1990's when their beers, particularly Bitter and Twisted and Schiehallion started to win award after award. It went ballistic when Bitter and Twisted landed the Champion Beer of Britain award in 2003. When their landlord decided to convert the farm into a residential complex, the brewery moved to a new industrial unit at Alva, some seven miles away. This facilitated the installation of a  totally purpose-built 50-barrel plant. The brewery has since been sold to the Caledonian Brewery and, consequently, their portfolio of beers are now part of a wider distribution network. Increased marketing has seen the beers become more commonly known, particularly as the top-selling brands can be found on many supermarket shelves.
