I was a bit puzzled about the combination of the second sign. However, it may be simply that there is another Nag's Head nearby in Leicester City Centre and the 'Star' was added for ease of identification. The Nag's Head is a very popular pub sign and thought to originate from the fact that a pony or 'nag' could be hired from an inn, most of which had their own stables for visitors or coaches. The first sign is located in Nuneaton. The original pub of this name was a local pick-up and drop-off point for waggoners who operated goods services to and from Atherstone and Coventry.
