Thames Hotel

Background Information
I spotted this inn sign at an auction and presume it is from the Thames Hotel at Maidenhead but this is not certain. Maidenhead is not a million miles from Windsor and the medieval palace can be seen in this illustration which also features a couple in a rowing boat.

Passing through or alongside Oxford, Reading, Henley, Windsor, Kingston and London, the River Thames is the longest river entirely in England and the second longest in the United Kingdom. The river's total length is 215 miles [346 kilometres] from its source at Thomas Head in Gloucestershire to the Thames Estuary. The river is fed by over 20 tributaries and features over 80 islands.

The original castle at Windsor was built after the Norman invasion and, since King Henry reign, has been used by a succession of monarchs. It is thought to be the longest-occupied palace in Europe.
