This photograph from the early 1930's was taken not too long before the pub was
Ansell's in order to construct a much larger public house. The old house,
with its Tudor-effect timbering and jetty, was rather attractive so its loss was
probably mourned by the locals despite the fact that a much larger pub with
increased facilities was to replace the structure.

This 1884 map extract [which can be purchased in its entirety online at
Mapseeker], shows the centre of Aldridge where the High Street meets
Walsall Wood Road, Anchor Road and Leighswood Road, the latter going north-west
to Northwood Villas and Stubbers Green.
