Some history of the Queen's Head

Located on the corner of Hunter's Vale, the Queen's Head opened as a beer house in the mid-19th century as Farm Street continued to be developed during the 1850s following the laying out of the thoroughfare in the previous decade

By the early 1860s the Queen's Head was being run by Thomas and Elizabeth Mountford. The couple had previously kept the Sun beer house on Heneage Street, though a decade earlier they were running the Swan Inn on Park Road. The licence passed to their daughter Selina for a short period but was transferred to Edwin Chilton in March 1865. She had already married the carter John Purshouse by this time but the licence was still held under her maiden name. Indeed, her husband had succeeded John Dare at the Crown and Anchor on Watery Lane. In later years she and her husband kept the Vine Inn on the corner of King Edward's Road and Garbett Street. It was whilst running the latter pub her husband died. She married James Davies in 1883.

More information on the Queen's Head on Farm Street to follow. I probably created the page as I had a link to the Queen's Head from another page. When building the site it is easier to place links as they crop up rather than go back later on. I realise this is frustrating if you were specifically looking for information on the Queen's Head. There is information on Birmingham dotted around the website - click here for a suitable starting place.
