The Deerstalker Magazine, an in-house publication, was launched in 1948 with the official remit being : "for the interest, entertainment and information of all employees of Mitchell's and Butler's Limited, and their associated companies." Contributions and articles were invited from all sections within the company. Consequently, the magazine's legacy is a wealth of information on every aspect of the business and the people who worked for the brewery.

"Four brewery workers and eight licensees appeared at Smethwick Magistrates Court yesterday charged with stealing beer and evading debts
to Mitchell's and Butler's brewery. The 12 are alleged to have been involved in the disappearance of more than £700 worth of beer from the brewery in Cape
Hill. They were each remanded on bail of £100 until July 22, when committal proceedings begin. Derek Collins, of Kingsley Drive, Castle Bromwich, Michael
Trew, of Norfolk House, White Heath, Rowley Regis, and Roy Field, of Auretha Close, Kingswinford, all brewery employees, are each charged with stealing barrels
of beer and lager worth £245. A fourth employee, Alan Wilkins, of Pool Road, Smethwick, is charged with obtaining beer worth £90 for the licensee of The
Travellers' Rest, Northfield, Birmingham. The eight licensees are charged with evading debts by falsifying details of the amount of beer received from the brewery.
They are Ernest Swann, of The Miners' Arms, Baghall Street, Hill Top, West Bromwich; John Bartley, of Harborne Road, Oldbury; Kevin
Morrissey, of the Cricketer' Arms, Lower Trinity Street, West Bromwich; Thomas Griffiths, of the Locomotive Engine, Dudley Road, Winson
Green; Arty Ebanks, of The Flask, Queen Street, West Bromwich; Victor Baldwin, of the Hen and Chickens, Hill Top, West Bromwich;
Karnail Singh, of the Three Mile Oak, Birmingham Road, West Bromwich, and Joseph Foots, of the Travellers' Rest, Northfield, Birmingham. Foots
is also accused of dishonestly receiving beer and lager from the brewery worth £700."
