Birmingham : The Queen's Head in Aberdeen Street at Winson Green [c.1962]

A photograph of the Queen's Head on Aberdeen Street at Winson Green. The frontage is a fine example of inter-war pub architecture. Replacing an older beer house that was demolished in 1936, this building was erected during the following year. Clean lines and understatement were the order of the day for a symmetrical design. The neighbouring Victorian properties in this photograph were demolished and replaced by modern housing but the Queen's Head survived to serve as the resident's local until the early 21st century. Henry Hunt, known locally as Harry, was the licensee in the late 19th century. He kept the Queen's Head with his Netherton-born wife Mary. Mitchell's and Butler's acquired the freehold of the building in 1935 though the company had held a long lease since the late 19th century. This is how the image would look in a picture frame. The image would look good in a frame with a mount aperture up to 16 x 12. I can supply images in a frame. Photo processing, framing and postage would mean a turnaround of 2-3 weeks. Pricing variable depending on size and shipping destination.

How To Buy Images

Paypal is the preferred payment for this site - it is one of the safest online payment methods and allows you to pay with a number of cards. You DO NOT need a Paypal account to pay but perhaps you should consider setting one up - it's free and easy to do so. Why have your credit card details with lots of retailers when you could just have one account that is accepted by many websites. I DO NOT see your credit/debit card details and this site is secure - note the GREEN PADLOCK in the address bar showing that all information is encrypted.

Each image is priced on the website and each image has an "add to basket" button. When you press one of these buttons you will be directed to your shopping basket. You can remove items by updating the basket. If you wish to continue viewing images and/or buy further photos you can use the "continue shopping" button to return to the page you were browsing. Please ensure you are selecting the option in the drop-down menu for the image you require. You can always delete items from your basket before you checkout. Once you are finished browsing and shopping simply review your purchases and, if you're ready, checkout.

When you are ready to pay press the "proceed to checkout" button. Paypal account holders simply log in and pay with a click. Paypal generates an invoice for you and a copy is sent to the website when your images will be sent via e-mail with attachments. I like to do it this way as I feel I can provide that little extra customer service with a friendly message and some advice on how to safely store your images on your computer's hard drive or other media.

Your image will be sent to the e-mail address used to pay via Paypal. If you prefer to receive your image via another e-mail address please leave an instruction in the "message to merchant" box on your invoice.

All orders are processed as quickly as possible but the office is not a 24/7 operation. I may be on the road taking photographs, on a cycle ride or even down the pub! I do however like to keep everyone happy and, as such, I generally process orders on the same day. You are a valued customer and are treated as such.
